Soap Making With Lard. Many love using lard for soap making to add a creamy lather, conditioning properties and some hardness to the finished product. Because of these properties, lard is a common substitute for palm oil.

Using an accurate set of scales, place your pot on the scales and reset them to zero. When mixing your lye and water solution you want to do so in a heat safe bowl, i personally use a big glass mixing bowl. Begin by preparing your mold if necessary (line with parchment or plastic).
